Path description
From the village centre noticeboard, cross the main road at the traffic lights, drop down onto the old Deeside railway line on the left of the Victory Hall through old Scots Pine woodland. On reaching the Tarland Road, cross to the pavement and follow the sign right to the Tarland Way. Continue past the houses on your left, crossing three entrance roads and a small bridge, until you are on a farm track, turn right to see the entrance to the 17th Century Aboyne Castle ahead. Carefully cross the B9094 Tarland Road to take this road, past the West Lodge and follow the avenue of fine mature trees with open views of the fields and often livestock. After 500 m you will spy on your left the Coo Cathedral, majestic cattle shed now a popular event venue, and finally Aboyne Castle, home to the Earl of Aboyne (and a private residence, so please respect this). At the second crossroads, turn right and enjoy the beautiful avenue with the Tarland Burn on your left. See if you can spot the giant sequoia trees! On arriving at the South Lodge, turn right to walk back to the Victory Hall and cross the main road at the traffic lights to return to the car park.
