The Bell Wood was bought on behalf of the community in 2003 by Mid Deeside Community Trust—now known as Aboyne Community Trust—after consultation showed that there was a demand for improved public access and a more natural habitat. That same year, the Trust was also granted a 99-year lease on the Lady Wood, situated on the western edge of the village.
The woodlands have a dedicated team of volunteers who assist with the maintenance of the community woodlands.
